SAGITTARIUS
This piece is based on a Sumerian cylinder seal, circa 7th century B.C.E. depicting the Babylonian god Pabilsag who was the precursor to the Greek version of Sagittarius, the Archer. The ancient seal depicts the winged Centaur with a bow and arrow attacking a winged-lion gryphon.
